Salford City part-owner Gary Neville wants the side to move into Manchester City's old Carrington training ground, according to a report.

Several clubs have reportedly shown an interest in moving into the facility, valued at £80,000 a year, and the former Manchester United defender is believed to think it will be perfect for the Ammies, who have been looking for a new site for some time.

The Sun reports that Neville is now seen as the leading candidate in the ongoing bidding war to be the new tenants of the complex, which is in the area close to where rivals City and United are based.

The report suggests that should Salford, who Neville took a stake in back in 2014 alongside fellow 'Class of 92' members Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, secure a deal for the Carrington base, they could move in as early as next month.

Managed by Graham Alexander, the Ammies are 16th in League Two after taking seven points from their opening six games in their maiden season in English football's fourth tier.
