Manchester United charged by UEFA for late arrival

Manchester United are charged by UEFA after arriving late for their Champions League Group H match with Valencia at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been charged by UEFA after arriving late for their Champions League match with Valencia on Tuesday night.

United's team coach was delayed in traffic on its way from the Lowry Hotel in Manchester city centre to the stadium, with manager Jose Mourinho later blaming the police for the delay after they were refused an escort to the ground.

However, Greater Manchester Police have since insisted that they have been in consultation with clubs "over a period of months" to inform them that they will now only provide police escorts when there is a risk to players.

Kickoff was delayed by five minutes for the Group H clash, which ended in a 0-0 draw as United's winless run stretched to four matches across all competitions.

Valencia have also been charged as both teams were reportedly late out of their dressing rooms, even after the new kickoff time had been agreed.

UEFA have also charged the Spanish outfit for a kit infringement due to their substitutes wearing neck warmers with the manufacturers' logo visible.
