Manchester United will reportedly no longer be making a final decision on Mason Greenwood's future before the team's Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Red Devils had been set to make an announcement on Greenwood before their first match of the 2023-24 campaign at Old Trafford.

However, according to BBC Sport, the 20-time English champions want to consult with their women's team before making any final call when it comes to the England international.

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The striker was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the charges have now all been dropped, meaning that he is free to resume his career during the new season.

There remains widespread speculation surrounding Greenwood's future, but it is believed to be unlikely that he will be sold or have his contract terminated.

A loan deal for the 2023-24 campaign has been mentioned as a possibility, with a number of European clubs believed to be interested in signing him on a short-term basis.

Man United are said to be keen to 'consult with all key stakeholders', which includes members of their women's team, with some currently playing for England at the Women's World Cup.

As a result, the club will not be making a call on Greenwood before the clash with Wolves, and it is unclear when an announcement could now arrive on the Englishman.

Greenwood has recently been pictured and videoed undergoing training sessions in a public space, with fan account Man United The Religion posting clips online.

The Red Devils are said to be receiving data from the training sessions, fuelling suggestions that the club are preparing for his return in the near future.

Before his arrest, Greenwood was regarded as one of the best young talents in world football, and he has another two years left to run on his contract, with the option of a further 12 months.

The forward has represented the Red Devils on 129 occasions in all competitions, finding the back of the net 35 times, in addition to contributing 12 assists. body check tags ::
