Manchester United manager-elect Erik ten Hag is supposedly considering stripping Harry Maguire of the Red Devils captaincy.

The 29-year-old has faced heavy criticism for his performances in the 2021-22 campaign, but Ralf Rangnick has insisted that he will continue to don the armband for the remainder of the season.

However, Man United are thought to be keen to sign a new centre-back in the upcoming transfer window, with Ten Hag moulding the squad into his own vision.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Maguire is at a very real risk of being stripped of the armband by Ten Hag, but no new names have been put forward for the captaincy.

Maguire has featured on 34 occasions across all competitions this season - scoring two goals in the process but coming under attack for some error-strewn defensive showings.

United are thought to have identified Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger as an ideal transfer target but are not optimistic about their chances of landing the soon-to-be free agent.
