Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to be offered a new long-term contract at Manchester United despite the uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the club.

The Dutchman became the club's head coach in May 2022, and he oversaw an impressive 2022-23 campaign at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils winning the EFL Cup, in addition to finishing third in the Premier League table, which secured a return to the Champions League for this season.

Ten Hag has also helped Man United record two wins from their opening three matches of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, beating both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.

According to the Daily Star, the 53-year-old is in line for a new deal at Old Trafford, with the club determined to secure his future despite the uncertainty surrounding the takeover situation.

The report claims that Ten Hag currently collects in the region of £9m a year, but the new deal could see him increase his wages to £14m per year.

The Dutchman's existing contract at Old Trafford is due to run until June 2025, but there is expected to be at least a couple more years added to that in the new deal.

Ten Hag boasts a record of 43 wins, nine draws and 13 defeats from his 65 matches in charge of the 20-time English champions.

The ex-centre-back enjoyed huge success at Ajax before arriving in English football, winning three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups.

The report claims that Ten Hag could sign a new contract before the end of the year, even if the Glazer family have not sanctioned a sale by that point.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani - seen as the favourite to purchase the club - is believed to view Ten Hag as the ideal manager to continue to take the club forward.

Meanwhile, the other leading candidate in the takeover race, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, would also not be looking to change the head coach if he was successful.

A number of Man United fans protested against the Glazers inside Old Trafford following Saturday's 3-2 win over Forest in the Premier League.

Despite the recent speculation, a takeover of the club is not believed to be close, and it is thought that the offers on the table are still short of the £6bn asking price set by the Americans.

The Red Devils have made three new signings this summer, bringing in Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, but another three could arrive before Friday's deadline. body check tags ::
