David de Gea has revealed that he wants to end his career at Manchester United, with the Spaniard "really comfortable" and "really happy" at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old has spent the last 11 years with the Red Devils, making 441 appearances in all competitions, and he is set to continue as the club's number one for the 2022-23 campaign.

De Gea's current deal is due to expire next summer, but there is the option of a further year, which Man United are expected to activate in the near future.

The stopper has said that he is yet to hold discussions with Man United over an extension, but he is keen to remain with the 20-time English champions for the remainder of his career.

"No, not yet, I didn't talk with anyone yet but of course, I would be really happy to be here for as long as they want because I want to be here for more years," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"Yeah, if it's possible, of course. If they let me stay here I will stay here, for sure! I'm really comfortable, really happy and hopefully, before I leave we can win something."

De Gea has accepted that last season was "really poor", with the Red Devils finishing down in sixth spot in the Premier League table and failing to win a trophy.

However, the Spaniard has said that the team are "really improving" under new head coach Erik ten Hag, branding the Dutchman "very intense".

"I think many things have to change. I think we were really poor last season, we played really bad, to be honest, but we are really improving (under) the new manager," De Gea added.

"We are really improving, the new manager, things are going really well, we are working really hard as a team, that's the most important thing. Let's see. Go day-by-day, try to work as hard as possible and try to improve.

"He's very intense, everything he says is fully focused, 100%, just in training, he brings new things, new thoughts, so we need to adapt to him.

"But we show already in those three games we are pressing high, we won the ball, we want to keep the ball, dictate, we want to lead the game. So I think we are doing well, we are working really hard."

De Gea also said that it is "a privilege" to be at Old Trafford, with the Spaniard spending the majority of his professional career with the Premier League giants.

"Winning or not winning, just being in this club means more than winning trophies but of course, we want to win, we always want to win. But representing this club is bigger than any trophy," he added.

"I'm just thinking about Manchester. It's my home. I feel very good here. It's a privilege, it's an honour to be here in this club. It's one of the best things in my life: to be a part of this club.

"Like you say, it's been a long time in the club, I say already that it feels like my home, I love the club, I enjoy every moment, bad moments, good moments, I enjoy every time with this club and it's a privilege to be here."

De Gea has held off competition from Dean Henderson to keep hold of the gloves at Man United, with the latter heading off on loan to Nottingham Forest for the 2022-23 campaign. body check tags ::
