Christian Eriksen is confident that Manchester United are moving in the right direction, with the Red Devils keeping their unbeaten run going with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Saturday night.

The 20-time English champions looked to be heading for a defeat at Stamford Bridge when Jorginho sent Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot late on, but Casemiro came up with a last-gasp header for the visitors, with the Brazilian finding the back of the net from a header.

"It does feel like a big relief compared to the six minutes before with the penalty against, it was a big blow," Eriksen told MUTV. "But, obviously, it shows the character and what a nice header.

"It was [a cracking header] – a very strong neck! [Smiles] A very strong neck to get the ball over there, a very nice goal."

Eriksen returned to the starting XI for the clash with the Blues, having only been a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur last week due to illness.

Casemiro's leveller sparked jubilant scenes in the away end at Stamford Bridge, and Eriksen has said that it was a special moment.

"I think that's what the fans want to go to the stadium for, that's what we as players want to achieve. We want to entertain and score goals and celebrate with the fans. Like you said, it was perfect timing to score at that end, to celebrate with the fans," he added.

Man United were on top for long stages of the first half at Chelsea but were unable to make their dominance count, with Eriksen claiming that the Red Devils missed the chance to score "a goal or two".

"Most of the first half, I think we played very well. We created chances and really were more dominant than they were. So yeah, I do think we should have made it easier for ourselves in the first half with a goal or two," said the Denmark international.

Eriksen, who arrived at Man United on a free transfer over the summer, is confident that the team are heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag's management.

"We always aim to be better than what we have if we don't have nine points, but I think overall, we can be proud of what we achieved," he added.

"Wednesday was a big performance and to top it up today would have been perfect, but we are on the right path to something that's going to be a lot more fun than where we are."

Man United are unbeaten in their six matches since the Manchester derby, while they have won nine of their last 13 matches in all competitions during a strong run of form.

Ten Hag's side, who are fifth in the Premier League table, will be back in action against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League next week before continuing their league campaign at home to West Ham United next weekend. body check tags ::
