Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been handed a scare over Marcus Rashford ahead of Sunday's EFL Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley.

The in-form striker limped out of Thursday's Europa League win over Barcelona and hinted at an injury concern on social media after the game, but he will no doubt fight tooth and nail to start either way.

Meanwhile, fellow forward Anthony Martial is still struggling to shake off his latest hip problem and will likely miss out, while the long-term duo of Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are definite absentees.

Assuming that Rashford's injury does not keep him out of the squad this weekend, Wout Weghorst's number may be up after the Dutchman once again proved ineffective in the Europa League - being withdrawn at half time for Antony.

The Brazilian subsequently scored the goal that would send Man United through to the last 16 and may link up with Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes, although Weghorst will no doubt point to his physical prowess as the challenge of Dan Burn awaits.

Weghorst will likely be sacrificed following a string of disappointing showings, though, while Fred - who also scored on Thursday - has surely done enough to win the battle to partner Casemiro, who has now served a domestic suspension.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka impressed on Thursday as well and could keep Diogo Dalot at bay, while Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw should form the rest of an unchanged rearguard in front of David de Gea, who could break the Man United clean sheet record with a 181st shutout here.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford
