Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Diogo Dalot, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho will again be absent for Wednesday's EFL Cup contest with Nottingham Forest.

The 20-time English champions will head to the City Ground for the first leg of their League Cup semi-final before welcoming Forest to Old Trafford for the return match on February 1.

Dalot has struggled with injury problems since returning from the 2022 World Cup, and the Portugal international will again be absent against Steve Cooper's side on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Martial, who has had fitness issues throughout the season, will miss out with the leg problem that forced him off against Manchester City in the Manchester derby on January 14.

Sancho has recently returned to training after a period away from the first team, but the England international will not be considered for selection against Forest.

"The players who were not available for the Arsenal game - Dalot, Martial, Sancho, are also not available for tomorrow," Ten Hag told reporters at his press conference.

The Man United head coach has said that his side "have a good opportunity" to win the EFL Cup this season.

"It's about that, it's about winning trophies. We have a good opportunity but we have to go from game to game," he added on Tuesday afternoon.

"So now we play Forest, two legs, so focus on the first leg and don't think further ahead because that will distract. So the aim for tomorrow is to win that game.

"It was the best feeling what you can have, winning a trophy. I had the luck in my career to win some trophies and it was magnificent, especially for the fans. It's so great.

"The fans here, they have some experience, especially the older fans. And now it's a period when Manchester United didn't win any trophies and it's too long ago, so we are aware of that fact. We have to do everything to bring a trophy in."

Ten Hag also insisted that he is not concerned by his defence despite the team conceding three times in their Premier League loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

"No, I think in a lot of games we defended very well, we had a lot of clean sheets. Against Man City [in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford], we defended very well. I think, in general, also against Arsenal, we defended well," he added.

"I don't think they had many clean shots, I think the one time [they did] was from a free-kick. But the rest were shots from distance, when we had a lot of defenders in between the ball and the goal.

"That's what I meant when I said all the goals were avoidable and it can't happen. That was my point, when you concede three goals in a top game, it is very hard to win the game.

"That is what happened so that is one of the conclusions. It can't happen. We set that conclusion. We [the coaches] showed them [the players] and we have to learn and take this lesson."

Man United will be in FA Cup action against Reading on Saturday night, with their next Premier League game not taking place until February 4 against Crystal Palace. body check tags ::
