Marcus Rashford's record vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at Marcus Rashford's record against Newcastle United ahead of Manchester United's EFL Cup contest with the Magpies.

Manchester United will be aiming to advance to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup when they tackle Newcastle United on Wednesday evening in a repeat of last season's final.

The Red Devils, who won the competition last term, will enter the contest off the back of a 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford again found it difficult to make his mark, and the England international is now on just one goal from 13 appearances this season, in addition to registering three assists.

The forward netted six goals in six EFL Cup outings last term, including in the final against Newcastle, and he could kickstart his campaign with a strong performance on Wednesday.

With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how the 26-year-old has fared against the Magpies throughout his professional career.

Rashford has faced Newcastle on 11 occasions and boasts a strong record against them, winning seven times and drawing twice, while he has also suffered two defeats versus the Magpies.

The forward has five goals and five assists to his name against Newcastle, with four of those goals and all of the assists coming in the Premier League, facing the team on 10 occasions in England's top flight.

Rashford has only faced Newcastle once in the EFL Cup, and as mentioned, that came in last season's final, scoring in a 2-0 success for the 20-time English champions.

The Englishman's first-ever outing against the Magpies came in 2017, providing an assist in a 4-1 victory for his side at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Rashford's first goal against Newcastle came in a 2-0 success at St James' Park during the 2018-19 campaign, while he also registered when the two sides met at Old Trafford in 2019-20.

The forward's best season against the Magpies came in 2020-21, when he scored twice and provided three assists across Man United's two meetings with them, but he has drawn a blank in his last three outings against Newcastle in England's top flight.

Rashford has only been on the winning side once in his last four games against Newcastle, including a 0-0 at Old Trafford in the league last term.

Leicester City (eight), Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool (all six) are the only four teams that Rashford has scored more goals against than Newcastle, and the Englishman will be determined to help his side progress to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday night. body check tags ::
