Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has insisted that Mason Mount is only suffering with "a minor issue" and will be available before the end of the campaign.

Ten Hag revealed during his press conference on Friday afternoon that Mount would not be available against Arsenal this weekend, having suffered another fitness problem.

However, the 25-year-old, who has seen his first season at the club harmed by a number of injury issues, is set to feature before the end of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

The clash with Newcastle United next week is likely to come too soon, but he should be back against Brighton & Hove Albion on May 19, with the FA Cup final coming one week later.

"It's a minor issue," Ten Hag told MUTV when questioned on Mount's latest setback. "So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he'll return.

Mount will be missing against Arsenal on Sunday

"Maybe Newcastle [next Wednesday] is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton [in our final match of the league season]."

Mount has been restricted to just 19 appearances for Man United this season following his arrival from Chelsea last summer, managing only one goal and one assist in the process.

Ten Hag also insisted that he has no concerns over the attacker's injury record, claiming that he has been a victim of "really bad luck" this season.

"I am very happy with Mason and he is also a very robust player," Ten Hag said during his press conference ahead of the contest with title-challenging Arsenal.

Ten Hag has no concerns over Mount's long-term fitness

"You see in his profile, he played in the last four seasons, this is the fifth, he only had one small issue at the end of his Chelsea career.

"Before that, he played almost all the games for three seasons after each other. Even with three days' turnaround, he always played.

"I think it is really bad luck and he is a good player. We really missed him across the season because he absolutely would have made a contribution to our levels."

Mount featured in Man United's opening two matches of the 2023-24 Premier League season before picking up a muscular issue which sidelined him for five games, and he was then absent between the middle of November and end of March with a calf problem.

The attacker scored on his return against Brentford on March 30, and he has featured in six of his team's last seven Premier League matches, including a start against Crystal Palace on Monday night. body check tags ::
