Man United injury news: Red Devils set for major fitness boost in the not too distant future

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said that Luke Shaw "is recovering really well" from a hamstring issue which has kept him out since the start of December.

Shaw has only featured on three occasions this term, as he missed the start of the campaign with a calf injury, before picking up a hamstring problem shortly after returning to the field.

Amorim recently said that Shaw would be back in training "in the next week or two", suggesting that he would be available for selection towards the start of February.

The Englishman was again absent from training on Wednesday, as Man United continued their preparations for Thursday's Europa League clash with Rangers, but a further positive update has been provided on the 29-year-old.

"Luke is recovering really well," Amorim told MUTV, while Man United received a further fitness boost on Wednesday, with Victor Lindelof able to take part in the session following a period out through injury.

Lindelof returned to Man United training on Wednesday

"Vic is training but I prefer to do extra work today because I want him for a long time, not just to put him [in] right away," said Amorim, as the manager confirmed that the Swede was not available against Rangers.

Mason Mount is still out with a muscular problem, while Jonny Evans is also currently absent, but Marcus Rashford trained with the main group amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

Amorim said that he is expecting "a tough match" against Rangers, who are currently in eighth spot in the Europa League table, one spot and one point behind Man United ahead of the clash at Old Trafford.

"We expect a tough match, a lot of physicality during the game," Ruben told reporters at his press conference. "We know that some important players from Rangers will not play and we have to know the new players to understand the way that they play.

"They play with the full-backs really high on the pitch and they have talent to score in the final thirds.

"It is one more difficult game but it is important for us because we want to keep in the playoffs and we need to have that [extra] time to train.

"I expect the same thing we faced in the last games, a really tough match, a lot of physicality and also the fans from Rangers making some noise. So we are prepared, our fans are prepared and we want to win."

What is Man United's record against Rangers?

Man United have faced Rangers on four previous occasions in competitive matches, and the Red Devils comfortably lead the head-to-head record, boasting three wins to the Scottish outfit's zero.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since the fifth matchday of the 2010-11 Champions League, with Man United winning 1-0 in Scotland, but the reverse fixture at Old Trafford finished goalless. body check tags ::
