Crystal Palace vs. Man United: Will Hojlund, Mount start for Red Devils?

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reveals that Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount are both in contention to start Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount are both in contention to start Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Hojlund has not played a single minute for Man United this season due to the hamstring problem that he picked up during a pre-season clash with Arsenal at the end of July.

Mount, meanwhile, has been out since the second game week of the new Premier League campaign, having suffered a muscular issue during the clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Both players returned to full training on Wednesday, though, and Ten Hag said during his pre-match press conference that the duo could start against Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.

"It's very good news. They are back on the pitch, they are back in team training and, yeah, we have to decide whether they are fit enough to start. But I think it's very pleasing they are back with the squad," Ten Hag told reporters ahead of the clash in London.

Hojlund, Mount are back for Man United

"We have so many games also in this block to cover, so yeah, very happy. They did a couple of training [sessions]. We will have to see how they recover, and then, tomorrow, we will make a final call."

Hojlund scored 16 times and registered two assists in 43 appearances for Man United last season following his arrival from Atalanta BC, and he found the back of the net in his first friendly of the summer against Arsenal before being forced off the field soon after.

Mount, meanwhile, struggled with injuries last term, but he started the team's opening three matches of the new campaign before picking up the problem which has seen him miss the last three games in all competitions.

Man United lost 4-0 to Palace in the corresponding clash last season, but Ten Hag has insisted that match will not have a bearing on Saturday's fixture.

Man United were beaten heavily by Palace in May

"We know what will come to us. We know it's always tough there, always aggressive there, but we know also the circumstances and you can't compare this," said the manager.

"We didn't have a fit squad, we even had one or two players that were maybe up to 20 per cent to play, but we had to play them. And, this time, it's totally different, we have now a fit squad. We have, definitely, 18 players who are capable to go into this good challenge for us.

"It was a 4-0, totally deserved, but Saturday will be different. I don't compare [situations]. From February onwards, we had to find 11 players to construct a team. Now it is 18 and we can pick one."

Man United will seemingly again be without the services of Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof for Saturday's game, while Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia are definite absentees.

The 20-time English champions beat Southampton 3-0 in the Premier League last weekend before thrashing Barnsley 7-0 in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
