Manchester City have reportedly opted to pursue a deal for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

The Premier League champions are in the market for a new centre-back this summer as a result of Vincent Kompany's departure and Nicolas Otamendi's potential exit.

Leicester City's Harry Maguire remains an option, although Pep Guardiola is said to be against meeting the England international's £90m valuation.

According to The Mirror, that has led to Ake emerging as a possibility for City, who are required to bring in a homegrown player to meet Premier League regulations.

Despite representing the Netherlands on the international stage, the 24-year-old meets that criteria as a result of coming through the Chelsea academy setup.

Ake - also capable of playing at left-back and in central midfield - would cost in the region of £40m.
