Manchester City are reportedly preparing to break the world-record fee paid for a goalkeeper with a £35m move for Benfica stopper Ederson this summer.

Pep Guardiola's keeping issues have been a well-documented problem following the loan departure of Joe Hart and the club's acquisition of Claudio Bravo, the latter having endured a testing debut season at the Etihad.

According to Goal.com, Guardiola is preparing to remedy the problem with a record move for Benfica's 23-year-old stopper, potentially paving the way for former number one keeper Hart to move on permanently from the club.

Should City conclude the deal, which could potentially be confirmed as early as next week, the fee would break the previous record set by Juventus for their £33m purchase of Gianluigi Buffon from Parma in 2001.

Ederson has made 37 senior appearances for Benfica since 2015 and helped his side to the Portuguese title this term.
