Fabian Delph dedicates Manchester City defeat of Chelsea to Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City defender Fabian Delph dedicates his side's 1-0 win over Chelsea to Benjamin Mendy, who is expected to miss most of the season with a knee injury.

Fabian Delph has dedicated Manchester City's 1-0 win over Chelsea to injured teammate Benjamin Mendy.

The Frenchman ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in last week's 5-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Mendy is expected to be out until April, with Delph deputising for the summer signing as the Citizens beat the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

"That performance was for our teammate, Benjamin," Delph told Sky Sports News.

"He sent us a message before the game and we knew we had to do it for him. That win is for you big man."

Mendy, who joined Man City from Monaco in a £51m deal in the summer, remains in Barcelona after undergoing surgery on his injury.
