Aymeric Laporte is reportedly in danger of missing a number of weeks out injured after sustaining a setback in Manchester City's 2-1 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The centre-back has missed most of this season through knee ligament damage, only recently returning to the starting 11.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Frenchman is set for another spell on the sidelines and has been ruled out of the Citizens EFL Cup final with Aston Villa on Sunday.

Laporte lasted just 33 minutes at the Bernabeu and his absence leaves City in a difficult situation at the back.

John Stones has been in and out of the side all season due to injury and poor form, while Vincent Kompany left the club in the summer.

Both Fernandinho and Rodri have been used in the position this season, but Pep Guardiola opted not to sign a reinforcement in the January window.
