Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their efforts to secure a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Merseyside giants are in the market for multiple players for that area of the pitch this summer, a consequence of the need for a refresh and squad members departing as free agents.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will come off the wage bill, as may James Milner who is being coincidentally being heavily linked with a switch to Brighton.

While it has been suggested by Jurgen Klopp that he would prefer to retain the services of Milner, it will not stop Liverpool's efforts to add at least two new faces for the engine room.

With Liverpool having withdrawn their interest in Jude Bellingham due to his valuation, it appears that the England international will move to Real Madrid for a nine-figure fee.

Liverpool's preference is to designate funds for more than just one high-profile name, with it seemingly emerging that they are increasingly their efforts to make an early statement in the market.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have presented a proposal to the representatives of Mac Allister.

Although it is stated that a deal is currently not close to completion, talks with Mac Allister's camp and Brighton could progress sooner rather than later.

Romano adds that there is "a 100% feeling" that the Argentina international will leave the Amex Stadium soon after the end of the season.

The 24-year-old's stock had already been on the rise before he starred during his country's World Cup triumph, making six starts at the tournament.

Mac Allister has since gone on to accumulate eight strikes and one assist in the Premier League this campaign, keeping Brighton in contention for European qualification.

Nevertheless, his father has said on more than one occasion that his son was likely to attract widespread offers to depart the Seagulls, rather than extend his contract past 2025.

Despite a transfer fee not being mentioned in the most recent report, it has previously been claimed that any club wanting to sign Mac Allister would have to pay in the region of £60m. body check tags ::
