Liverpool 'eye Matthias Ginter swoop'

Liverpool could move for Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter this summer, according to a report.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to bring Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter to Anfield in this summer's transfer window.

Ginter, 25, previously played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before joining Gladbach in 2017.

According to Calciomercato, Klopp wants Ginter to take Joel Matip's place in the squad and therefore compete with Joe Gomez for the starting role alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Ginter, who is a 23-time Germany international, has scored once in 19 Bundesliga appearances this season.

The defender will see his current deal with Gladbach expire in the summer of 2021, although his German club do have the option of extending the contract for a further 12 months.

Matip is currently operating alongside Van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence as both Gomez and Dejan Lovren are on the sidelines through injury.
