Liverpool are allegedly giving consideration to making an approach for Rennes forward Martin Terrier.

Jurgen Klopp has recently insisted that he cannot envisage Liverpool making any more signings before the end of the summer transfer window.

That is a consequence of Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsey having already signed long-term contracts at Anfield, while it is believed that a search for a new midfielder will be postponed until 2023.

However, at a time when Liverpool continue to be linked with fresh faces for the middle of the park, the Merseyside giants also have to contemplate potential replacements for Roberto Firmino.

As well as being due to turn 31 years of age in October, the Brazil international now has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

With the forward no longer first choice, speculation persists that he could opt to take on a new challenge either this summer or in 2023.

According to The Mirror, Klopp has identified Terrier as a possible addition should Firmino seek pastures new in the near future.

Last season, the 25-year-old contributed 21 goals and three assists as Rennes claimed fourth position in Ligue 1, only missing out on the top three by three points.

That return represented a significant improvement on the nine strikes that were netted in his first year since moving from Lyon.

With three years still remaining on his deal at Roazhon Park, Rennes are in a strong position when it comes to making a decision on his future.

Furthermore, the French club have already overseen a big-money departure this summer with Nayef Aguerd having linked up with West Ham United for £30m.

As it stands, Rennes have also not made any significant outfield signings, an indication that Bruno Genesio wishes to take a settled squad into 2022-23.

Despite his development over the past two years, Terrier is yet to make his international bow with France, instead being limited to 13 Under-21 caps earlier in his career.
