Liverpool looking to avoid equalling 98-year-old losing record

Liverpool will look to avoid equalling a 98-year-old losing record when they welcome Everton to Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool will be aiming to avoid equalling a 98-year-old losing record when they welcome Everton to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Reds have lost each of their last three home top-flight fixtures to Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City and will be looking to avoid suffering four defeats in succession for just the second time in their history.

The Merseyside giants last suffered four home league losses in a row during the 1923-24 campaign, while no reigning top-flight champion has posted four straight defeats at home since Everton in 1928-29.

Jurgen Klopp's side have dropped down the table into fifth position, now 16 points behind leaders Manchester City, who also have a 10-point advantage over second-placed Manchester United.

The English champions will enter Saturday's Merseyside derby off the back of a positive result, though, having beaten RB Leipzig 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.

Liverpool are also unbeaten against Everton in the Premier League at Anfield since September 1999.
