Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool remain Premier League title contenders'

Jurgen Klopp is in no doubt that Liverpool remain Premier League title contenders, despite the gap on leaders Manchester City growing to nine points this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Liverpool will challenge for the Premier League title come the end of the season, as he backs his side for continued success in the years to come.

The Reds were held to a goalless draw by rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, leaving them with just one win in their last eight games in all competitions.

Liverpool enjoyed the better moments across the 90 minutes and did more to win the match, which Klopp believes offers enough proof that there is little between his side and those currently battling it out at the top, despite the nine-point gap on leaders Manchester City.

"We have to do whatever is necessary and we will be challengers. We will be challengers for the next few years, no problem," The Mirror quotes him as saying. "We showed big heart, we were brave.

"I thought we were smart in doing the right thing at the right moment but in the end it didn't work out. I am not overly-positive, I am not crazy but I really see we are still good, and that is what I try to push. People around the stadium saw a game they wanted to see - but they all had Liverpool shirts on."

Liverpool travel to Tottenham Hotspur for their next league outing, but first comes a Champions League tie against Slovenian side Maribor in midweek.
