Liverpool will be looking to equal a club record when they square off against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The Merseyside giants have endured a poor campaign by their own high standards, made worse by their exit from the FA Cup last weekend.

However, priority has been on the Premier League and Champions League, particularly the former with Liverpool considerably off the pace.

Jurgen Klopp's team currently sit 10 points adrift of the top four, occupying 10th spot, and they are without a top-flight win in three matches.

Nevertheless, when Liverpool take to the pitch at Molineux this weekend, they have the opportunity to equal a club record.

Should Liverpool defeat their hosts in the West Midlands, it would represent the 12th straight win over their next opponents in the Premier League.

Coincidentally, the only other time that Liverpool have won 12 times in succession versus the same team in league encounters was against Wolves' fierce rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool and Wolves have been regular foes in recent weeks due to their meetings in the FA Cup third round, a replay being required after Wolves held the six-time European champions to a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

In the second instalment, which is the equivalent fixture to the one taking place on Saturday, Liverpool prevailed by a 1-0 scoreline courtesy of a long-range Harvey Elliott strike.

Discounting cup competitions, Wolves find themselves on a nine-match winless streak versus Liverpool at Molineux, their last success coming in 1981.

Wolves are also attempting to emerge victorious in consecutive league matches for the first time since November 2021.

On a positive note, Liverpool have lost their last two top-flight fixtures on their travels, conceding three goals in the defeats to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively. body check tags ::
