Jordan Henderson: 'Mohamed Salah gives us confidence like Luis Suarez did'

Jordan Henderson admits that there are big similarities between Mohamed Salah and Luis Suarez, as both players instilled confidence in the Liverpool squad.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has described Mohamed Salah as a "fantastic player" and says that the forward is giving his teammates added confidence in the same way that Luis Suarez did.

The Egypt international took his tally to 36 goals in 41 games this season by putting four past Watford in Saturday evening's Premier League clash on Merseyside.

Comparisons have been made with former Anfield hero Suarez, who left the club in 2014 on the back of a season that saw him net 31 goals in 41 league matches as Liverpool narrowly missed out on the title.

Henderson admits that Salah is having a similar impact to Suarez, telling reporters after the 5-0 win over Watford: "It's the confidence [they bring]. You have someone like Mo who does the hardest part of the game, which is putting the ball in the back of the net. Then, as a team, if we work as hard as we possibly can, Mo is going to finish it in the final third.

"We had that with Luis. You know when you are walking out there are so many goals out there for you. They are both fantastic players in their own right and you can't compare them. They are different players. I know they score a lot of goals and both work hard off the ball but it is very difficult to make that comparison.

"Luis moved on to Barcelona and is doing fantastically well. He is a fantastic player who I was privileged to play with. But Mo this season has been unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. He is doing it every week, without fail."

Salah is four goals ahead of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the race for the Golden Boot award.
