The Football Association has announced that they are appealing the punishment handed to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp following his behaviour against Manchester City.

The German was sent off in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Man City on October 16 after shouting in the face of the linesman, who did not flag for what Klopp perceived to be a foul on Mohamed Salah by Bernardo Silva.

Although the Liverpool boss apologised following the incident, he was charged with improper conduct and was subsequently fined £30,000 by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

However, the FA have reviewed the reasoning behind the decision and have opted to lodge an appeal after Klopp escaped a touchline ban.

A spokesperson said: "The FA can confirm that it is appealing against the Independent Regulatory Commission's sanction in relation to the recent case involving Jurgen Klopp after reviewing its written reasons.

"The Independent Regulatory Commission fined Jurgen Klopp £30,000 for breaching FA Rule E3 during Liverpool FC's Premier League game on Sunday 16 October 2022 against Manchester City FC."

Klopp could still face a touchline ban if the FA are successful in the appeal. body check tags ::
