Eredivisie manager 'in pole position to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool'

Liverpool are reportedly considering Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as a possible successor to Jurgen Klopp, with the 45-year-old emerging as a top candidate for the role.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in recruiting Feyenoord's Arne Slot as a successor to Jurgen Klopp.

The German coach announced earlier in the campaign that he would be ending his nine-year stay on Merseyside at the conclusion of the current season.

Klopp has guided Liverpool to both Premier League and Champions League trophies, and the former Borussia Dortmund man still has the chance to seal a domestic double this term.

The Reds lifted their 10th EFL Cup trophy with a Wembley win over Chelsea in February, and Klopp's troops are currently in the midst of a three-way title race.

Liverpool occupy second position in the Premier League standings, level on points with first-placed Arsenal with just five matches of the term remaining.

Liverpool looking at Slot to replace Klopp?

According to Sky Sports News, a new candidate has emerged in the race to succeed Klopp at Liverpool ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

The report claims that the Reds are keen on securing the services of Feyenoord head coach Slot, who has enjoyed a three-year spell in charge of the Dutch side.

It is understood that the Merseysiders are moving their focus away from Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim, who is no longer favourite to take over at Anfield.

Lille's Paulo Fonseca has also been touted as a possible replacement for Klopp, while a rogue contender has emerged at the beginning of this week.

It has been reported that Liverpool have held initial talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O'Neil over potentially swapping Molineux for Merseyside.

Slot's time at Feyenoord

Since taking the reins at Feyenoord during the summer of 2021, Slot has enjoyed a productive three-year spell at the club, especially last season.

The 45-year-old guided the Pride of the South to their first Eredivisie title in six years, beating the likes of PSV Eindhoven and perennial champions Ajax to the Dutch crown.

This season has proved harder for Slot's side following a group-stage exit in the Champions League, but Feyenoord are currently unbeaten in normal time since the trip to Brendan Rodgers's Celtic on December 13.

Unfortunately for Slot, the formidable form of PSV has given them a nine-point advantage at the top of the Eredivisie with four matches left, meaning that Feyenoord are unlikely to achieve back-to-back league honours.

However, the Liverpool-linked boss has still nurtured an effective, front-footed style of play at Stadion Feijenoord - an approach which has clearly peaked the interest of the Reds. body check tags ::
