Georginio Wijnaldum: 'Long way to go to become Liverpool legends'

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum suggests that the Liverpool first-team squad will not become 'legends' if they beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has claimed that the Liverpool first-team squad should not be regarded on the same level as the club's greats with victory in the Champions League.

On Saturday evening, Liverpool face Real Madrid in the final of the competition having only been regarded as outsiders for the trophy at the start of the campaign.

However, despite the possibility of glory in Kiev, Wijnaldum has played down the place where he and his teammates would hold in the club's illustrious history with success in Ukraine.

The 27-year-old is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail: "There are players here that won a lot, they are legends. If you take Kenny Dalglish I don't think one Champions League win will put you up there with him.

"You have to play a lot more games, win a lot more trophies then you will come up with the big legends. Of course, if you win a Champions League [it's historic]. How many players can say they've won a Champions League? There are not a lot."

Wijnaldum has featured in 11 of Liverpool's games in the competition this season.
