The 18-year-old currently plays for Jubilo Iwata in J League 2, having made his first-team debut in February during a 3-2 loss against Fagiano Okayama.

Goto managed to net a brace on that day, and has scored five times overall for Iwata in 20 league appearances to date, meaning only Ryo Germain and Dudu are ahead of him in the club's goalscoring charts.

The striker would have featured for Japan at the Under-20 World Championships, however he suffered an injury soon before the tournament which ruled him out of contention for game time.

Nottingham Forest are understood to have held talks with him during that time, while there was also interest from the Saudi Pro League.

However, reports emerged earlier this week that Willian had turned down those offers in favour of staying in West London, and the Cottagers have now confirmed the news.

Transfer rumours: Morata to Roma, Diallo to Leicester, Gray to Palace

Roma are reportedly in discussions with Atletico Madrid over a potential summer deal to sign striker Alvaro Morata.

According to Sky Sports in Italy, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto has held a meeting with Atletico representatives to discuss Morata's availability this summer.

"I felt at times last season we were a bit vulnerable away from home at set plays and conceded far too many goals on the road in open play and set plays. Michael will definitely help us to improve on this.

"His competitive nature, desire to defend and undoubted experience will be a huge benefit to the group and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Mbappe 'set for showdown talks with PSG president'

Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to hold face-to-face talks with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on Tuesday to discuss his future at the club.

The 24-year-old was seemingly on the verge of securing his dream move to Real Madrid last summer before performing a U-turn and penning a new two-year contract with PSG that included a 12-month extension.

However, PSG have since been left stunned after allegedly receiving a letter from Mbappe confirming that he has no intention of activating the option to extend his deal until 2025, allowing him to walk away from the club for free in the summer of 2024.

PSG president Al-Khelaifi admitted earlier this month that he was left "shocked" and "disappointed" to learn of Mbappe's decision not to commit his future to 2025, but he has ruled out the prospect of the star forward leaving the club for free in a years' time.

Mikel Arteta refuses to rule out further Arsenal signings

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refused to rule out the prospect of more players arriving at the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes for business.

The Gunners have already forked out in excess of £200m on the signings of Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, the latter of whom commanded a British-record £105m fee to poach from West Ham United.

Ahead of Arsenal's return to the Champions League, Arteta is seeking to build a squad capable of challenging for Premier League glory with enough depth to juggle their domestic and continental commitments successfully.

Despite already adding to their midfield ranks with the captures of Rice and Havertz, Arsenal are being tipped to bolster their engine room further, with Southampton's Romeo Lavia supposedly earmarked as a top target.

Man United 'reject loan bid from West Ham for Harry Maguire'

Manchester United have reportedly turned down a loan offer from West Ham United for centre-back Harry Maguire.

The 30-year-old revealed on Sunday that he will no longer captain the Red Devils after three-and-half-years wearing the armband, and speculation over his future at the club remains rife.

Maguire fell down the pecking order under manager Erik ten Hag last season – the Dutchman's first year in charge at Old Trafford – with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and left-back Luke Shaw all preferred to start in the heart of the defence.

The England international started just eight Premier League games in 2022-23 and it is thought that Man United are open to cashing in on the defender to generate funds for summer targets.

Liverpool-linked Thuram 'decides to stay at Nice'

Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram has reportedly decided to stay with the French club this summer amid interest from a number of teams including Liverpool.

After beginning his career with Monaco, the 22-year-old joined Nice in 2019 and has since established himself as one of the brightest prospects in Ligue 1.

Thuram, primarily a deep-lying midfielder, has chipped in with eight goals and 11 assists in 138 appearances for Nice across all competitions, and he was a key player under both Lucien Favre and Didier Digard last season, starting 43 matches.

Dean Henderson 'on brink of permanent Forest move'

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly closing in on a permanent move to Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at the City Ground, but he was reduced to just 20 appearances in all competitions after sustaining a thigh injury in January.

Henderson has since returned to Man United's Carrington training complex to recover ahead of the new season, but he is not expected to join Erik ten Hag's first-team squad on their pre-season tour of the USA.

Chelsea 'considering move for Harry Maguire'

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Chelsea.

The England international was provided with just 759 minutes of football in the Premier League during 2022-23, half of those outings coming from the substitutes' bench.

PSG to rival Man United for Goncalo Ramos?

Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly rival Manchester United for the signature of Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos this summer.

The 22-year-old is facing an uncertain future with the Portuguese giants, who have allegedly given the striker's agent Jorge Mendes the green light to sound out potential suitors for his client.

The Red Devils are understood to have identified Ramos as one of their primary attacking targets, with Erik ten Hag looking to reinforce his frontline following the January exit of Cristiano Ronaldo and departure of loanee Wout Weghorst at the end of last season.

A report from early this month claims that Benfica expect Man United to trigger the €120m (£103m) release clause in Ramos's contract, and Portuguese compatriot Bruno Fernandes has recently talked up the prospect of linking up with the striker at Old Trafford.

Liverpool 'name asking price for Thiago Alcantara'

Liverpool are reportedly willing to accept a cut-price fee of €12m (£10.3m) to let Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara depart this summer.

The former Bayern Munich man has often flaunted his qualities in the Reds' midfield under Jurgen Klopp, but injuries have also hampered his time on Merseyside.

Thiago was restricted to just 28 appearances in all tournaments - providing one assist - and a persistent hip problem plagued him during the second half of the campaign.

With Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai arriving to bolster Klopp's midfield ranks this summer, Thiago's opportunities for regular starts next term could be limited further, and an exit has been mooted either this year or when his deal expires next summer.

Chelsea 'considering Leeds offer for Ethan Ampadu'

Chelsea are reportedly deliberating over whether to sell Ethan Ampadu to Leeds United.

While the Blues have made considerable progress in their efforts to boost their position with FFP, more sales are expected in due course with a number of players not having a future at Stamford Bridge.

Most notably, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital wish to find a permanent home for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku, each of them commanding big wages and the latter realistically needing to be sold for a fee in order to maximise the funds recoup from his failed £97.5m signing in 2021.

Napoli boss Rudi Garcia has indicated that he expects Victor Osimhen to remain at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for 2023-24.

The Nigeria international has been constantly linked with a departure from the Italian giants over the past 12 months during a time when his club have enjoyed their best season for more than three decades.

Napoli won their first Serie A title for 33 years, Luciano Spalletti's side dominating the division having been helped by the performances of Osimhen.

The 24-year-old contributed 26 goals and four assists as Napoli secured the trophy by 16 points, yet it has been suggested that it would mark the player's time to move elsewhere.

Son confirms he rejected Saudi Pro League move

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has acknowledged that he had the opportunity to move to the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer.

The 31-year-old endured one of his worst campaigns in a Spurs shirt during 2022-23, chipping in with just 10 goals and six assists from 36 outings in the Premier League.

Although the numbers were respectable in their own right, his lack of consistency led to suggestions that Spurs may take the chance to cash in on the South Korea international should an offer materialise.

At the start of the Saudi Pro League's aggressive approach towards attempting to acquire new talent, it was alleged that Son was on their wishlist.

Manchester United 'to announce Onana deal later this week'

Manchester United will reportedly announce the arrival of Andre Onana later this week, with the Red Devils now reaching an agreement with Inter Milan over a deal for the goalkeeper.

Ange Postecoglou reveals "good chat" with Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he held a "good chat" with Harry Kane as speculation over the striker's future continues to rage.

The England captain is yet to pen an extension on his existing Spurs terms, which are due to run out at the end of next season, and Bayern Munich's desire to bring him to the Bundesliga is no secret.

The German champions are already believed to have failed with two bids for Kane, who would supposedly be open to a move to the Allianz Arena, and Daniel Levy has held subsequent talks with Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen.

Manager Thomas Tuchel refused to directly confirm his side's interest in Kane when questioned, but honorary president Uli Hoeness has talked up Bayern's chances of prising Kane away from Spurs this summer.

Transfer rumours: De Gea to Sevilla, Felix to Villa, Mateta to Leipzig

Sevilla are reportedly plotting a move to bring Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea back to his homeland.

The 32-year-old is officially a free agent after running down his contract with Manchester United, who failed to agree a renewal with their former number one.

A return to La Liga has been strongly mooted for the ex-Atletico Madrid man for some time, but clubs in Saudi Arabia could also offer him another mammoth payday.

However, Fichajes claims that Sevilla are now considering a swoop for De Gea if current number one Yassine Bounou leaves the club in the current transfer window.
