Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch is "hopeful" that striker Patrick Bamford will be available to play some part in their crucial Premier League clash away at Brentford on Sunday.

The 28-year-old has been plagued with injuries throughout the 2021-22 campaign and has been reduced to just 11 appearances across all competitions as a result.

However, Bamford has recently returned to first-team training after recovering from a ruptured plantar fascia in the sole of his foot, and Marsch has since provided a positive update on the player's fitness ahead of their final top-flight game of the season.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Marsch said: "Patrick Bamford has looked really good this week, we haven't made a final decision on where he'll stand for the moment on Sunday.

"He had a day off today inside to recuperate effectively but we're hopeful we can make the decision to make him available for Sunday.

"We just have one more meeting tomorrow with Patrick to go through what it's looked like, what the loads have been, how he feels and then do a final assessment. Is he available? How many minutes? What's the best strategy? And then we have to be ready to let him go."

Marsch has also confirmed that defender Robin Koch has recovered from a knock which he sustained in the 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

"Robin trained today, I think he'll be available from the start," the American added. "Everyone else who was available last weekend will be [on Sunday]".

Leeds currently sit in the relegation zone on goal difference and they need to better Burnley's result at home to Newcastle United if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship. body check tags ::
