Report: Steve McClaren on shortlist for Hearts job

Former England manager Steve McClaren has made his interest in the Hearts job known and is now in contention to replace sacked boss Ian Cathro, according to a report.

Steve McClaren is reportedly among the contenders to take over from Ian Cathro as the new manager of Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

The former Derby County, Newcastle United and England chief has been out of work for the past five months after being sacked by the Rams.

According to BBC Sport, McClaren has made his interest in the Hearts position known and is in contention to replace Cathro, who oversaw just five wins from his 22 league games at the Tynecastle helm.

McClaren spent 18 months in charge of the England senior squad following a previous stint as assistant to Sven-Goran Eriksson, but he failed to impress and has endured mixed success in club management since.

Hearts placed Jon Daly in interim charge for their opening Premiership game of the season on Saturday, which ended in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of defending champions Celtic.
