Hamilton boss Canning is ignoring Dundee's plight

Pressure is piling on Dens Park manager McCann.

Hamilton boss Martin Canning insists he cannot afford to take any notice of Neil McCann's plight ahead of Saturday's clash with bottom side Dundee.

Pressure is piling on the Dens Park manager after six straight Ladbrokes Premiership defeats and a Betfred Cup exit to Ayr United.

However, Canning noted his side beat St Mirren 3-0 at home on Saturday for their first win in four matches, to give Accies some respite of their own.

He said: "You've got to go and do your own job and my job on Saturday is to try to get Hamilton Accies three points and if we can do that we'll be delighted.

"That's just football. We know Dundee will be desperate for the points.

"We've got to make sure we match that and that gives us the best opportunity.

"It's a home game for us so we'll prepare the same way we prepare for every home game and that's to try to win the game.

"We're all going to have spells when things don't go our way.

"I'm pretty sure, same as I do, he'll believe in his players that they can go and win games and he'll work hard to try and make that happen.

"All you can do in that situation is put all your effort and work into trying to get a performance.

"That's probably the most important thing. If the performance is right then generally you'll get a result."

Canning  stressed just how much football can change in a week.

The former Hamilton defender said: "If I go back to speaking to you (media) guys last week, it was all doom and gloom having lost to Livingston, not created much in the game, not played particularly well and then within a week, one result can make you feel a lot better.

"I think at times last season, half-a-dozen clubs went through runs of losing four, five, six games and it can happen in this league quite easily.

"I thought Dundee were good against St Mirren – very good. The goalkeeper makes a mistake and they lose the game and from there it snowballs into a poor run of results, so it can happen so easily.

"The flip side of it is, you go and win two or three games in a row and it's a completely different complexion.

"I'm sure they'll be working as hard as ever and Neil will have confidence in his players that they can turn it round and for us, we know it's going to be a really difficult game."
