Rio Ferdinand: 'Jose Mourinho must help Paul Pogba'

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand challenges Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho to get the best out of Paul Pogba next season.

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has challenged Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho to help Paul Pogba put together a consistent run of form for his club team.

Pogba was outstanding in France's 2018 World Cup campaign - inspiring his country to the final, before getting his name on the scoresheet as Les Bleus landed the crown with a 4-2 win over Croatia on Sunday afternoon.

The midfielder has largely struggled to impress since returning to United from Juventus in 2016, however, and Ferdinand has called on Mourinho to "work out" how to get the best out of the 25-year-old.

"For some reason the jigsaw puzzle hasn't been put together properly in a Manchester United shirt," Ferdinand told BBC Sport.

"The way the team plays, I think 'are they getting the ball into him in the right areas?' He's not receiving the ball quickly enough. Is he being put in the right positions? These are the questions a manager has to work out."

Pogba will now be given at least three weeks off by his club, which is expected to see him miss the start of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign. body check tags ::
