Sports betting myths that can ruin your play

The world of sports betting is a big one. With so many popular sports to bet on, and millions of fans that are both bettors and non-bettors, there is a mixture of belief and culture surrounding the world of sports betting. It is expected, then, that there would be myths that would surround the community and be passed down from one person to another.

Myths are something that, if you fully believe in, may ruin your betting experience. More suggestions you can take from Nostrabet where professional bookmakers guide you well to improve your betting strategies and skills.

Here are the top sports betting myths that are ruining your betting experience.

Bookies are keeping secrets from you
This is perhaps one of the oldest, if not the oldest sports betting myth there is out there. This particular myth claims that sports bookmakers have access to a certain "inside" information, or a secret source of something that they could use to tip the odds to their favor--for them to earn money--and control the entire betting system more.

It has long been proven that this is not true. Sports bookmakers, just like bettors, are merely spectators of the sports that are being wagered for. What makes them different is that they are the ones facilitating the bets of the people and the ones paying them out as well. However, they indeed sometimes adjust and manipulate the odds, based on several reasons. They do this so that they can be sure that they would still earn good money no matter the outcome of the game, and no matter how many people bet on either side of the game.

The favorites always win
Yet another one of the oldest sports betting myths is that you should bet on the favorites. This is because, according to this myth, the favorites are more than sure to win the game. This belief may probably come from the fact that a lot of favorites are winning the games after all. However, there is no strong basis or proof for this belief.

What is true is that while the odds are reflections of the probabilities and predictions for a game, they are in no way a reliable indication of the outcome of the game, in the end, no one can tell who would win the game, no matter how many advantages one side may have against the other.

All games are fixed
You can hear this myth being spurted out more by those who are losing bets here and there. Sometimes, when someone is on a long losing streak on their bets, they accuse the system of being rigged, that all games are fixed, and coincidentally, it has all been fixed against them.

However, as with all other sports betting myths, there is no truth in this. While there had been several exposed fixing and rigging in some sports throughout history, the truth remains that in general, sports are played fairly, and the outcome would always depend on how each team and player would perform.

There is the "due factor"
The "due factor" refers to the "redeeming" time for a team. Sometimes, if a team or player is on a long losing streak, some people believe that it will be "due" for them to finally win, making them a good choice for placing their bet on. On the other hand, if a team or player is on a long winning streak, some think that they will eventually lose, and it may be a bad choice to be on them at that time.
