In the past decade, technology has infiltrated a growing number of industries and sectors and transformed the ways in which they operate on a global scale. When it comes to sports, however, football has undergone the most dramatic transformation. Continue reading to find out how football has changed within the past decade as well as to what extent technology is to blame.

The rise of sports betting

As technology continues to impact sports in more ways than ever before, a growing number of football fans are turning their attention to sports betting at top-rated online casinos and betting sites such as Mr Green betting as a prime example. It is worth noting that sports betting did exist prior to a decade ago but it has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years due to a combination of technological advancements and a growing demand for online sports betting on a global scale. This has enabled football fans to bet on their favourite teams or players in a safe and secure manner as well as from the comfort of their own homes.

The growing importance of accurate replays

In today's sporting landscape, accurate replays are the norm. But about a decade ago, accurate replays were a mere pipedream for teams, players, commentators, and football fans alike. If a referee was unable to determine what had happened in order to make a decision, a rash, often incorrect, judgment had to be made on the pitch. This led to mounting frustration amongst players and fans with bad calls made left, right, and centre. In recent years, however, instant replays have become commonplace in football as well as the sporting industry on a wider scale and, as a result, fewer mistakes tend to be made by referees.

A greater variety of camera angles

With a growing number of football fans now following along with the action of their favourite football team from the comfort of their own home or on the go, the at-home viewing experience has undergone a series of changes. In addition to drone footage providing a birds-eye view of the pitch, referees and players have also been known to wear cameras. As a result, football fans can feel as if they are up close and personal with players and ensure they never miss a slice of the action. A mere decade ago, televised football matches were only recorded from a handful of camera angles. This made it difficult to determine who had the ball, find out who had scored, and even distinguish between teams wearing shirts of a similar colour.

An improved playing performance

As technology has continued to grow, develop, and adapt, football players have been able to tap into emerging trends to improve their playing performance on the pitch and beyond. This is largely due to the fact that technology has been incorporated into a number of common training regimes as well as applied to a number of tracking and monitoring systems. As a result, football teams can monitor how their players are performing during minor and major matches on a regular basis and adjust their strategy as necessary going forward. This process was not only unheard of a number of years ago but practically impossible.

In the past decade, technology has had a dramatic impact on the sports industry. By taking a closer look, however, there is no denying that football has benefitted in a number of ways. As a result, it has welcomed the rise of sports betting, the growing importance of accurate replays, a greater variety of camera angles, and an improved playing performance.
