Crypto sponsorships in the world of sports in 2022
Sports Mole

In the past decade, cryptocurrency has been experiencing a huge rise in popularity. Since 2009, when Satoshi Nakamoto introduced the concept to the world, more and more people are becoming interested in the various forms of crypto that are available on the market today. As the world of crypto grows in popularity, many prestigious organizations and public figures have been enamored by the prospect. From famous rappers, like Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, to industrialists like Elon Musk, to athletes like Tyson Fury or Dillian Whyte, more and more celebrities are embracing the idea.

The world of sports has, especially, had a very deep bond with the crypto market. Sports NFTs are some of the most popular, and many athletic organizations are beginning to make sponsorship deals with crypto-based companies. Let us take a look at a few athletes or athletic organizations sponsored by crypto.

National Women's Soccer League

Just last year (2021), the National Women's Soccer League stepped into a partnership with Voyager, a crypto trading platform, which focuses on most of the popular cryptocurrencies today, including BitCoin and Ether. Soccer is the biggest sport in the world today, with fans of the game numbering in the billion around the world, and the national women's soccer league is among the more popular events in the sport. As part of the partnership, the athletes participating in the league have agreed to be given crypto-based payments.

Dillian Whyte

On April 23, 2022, Dillian Whyte, one of the best active boxers, went up against super-star champion Tyson Fury. In the spectacular, six-round fight, which Fury eventually ended with a TKO, many keen-eyed fans noticed that Dillian bore the sponsorship of one of the premier cryptocurrencies today, LuckyBlock. The boxing world is one that is heavily involved in the crypto world, as boxers (among which is Tyson Fury himself) have voiced their public support for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and even created their own e-wallets.

FIFA World Cup 2022

The FIFA World Cup is one of the biggest events in the world of sports, and certainly the biggest in the world of soccer. Held every four years, the 2022 World Cup, is going to be held in Qatar, starting November 21, 2022. What many are shocked (or perhaps not) to learn, is that the event will be sponsored by Crypto.com. The website is making headway in the sports world, as it has also gotten sponsorship deals in the world of American sports as well.

The Staples Center

In 2021, the Staples Center, one of America's most popular sports venues, entered a sponsorship deal with Crypto.com, and officially changed the name to the Crypto.com Arena. The Crypto.com Arena is the home of quite a few of Los Angeles' most prominent sport teams, including the Los Angeles Kings (ice hockey), the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers (NBA), and the Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA). The surrounding area, where the Crypto.com Arena is located, will soon have its name changed to Kobe Bryant Boulevard, honoring one of the most popular and successful Los Angeles Lakers, who passed away in a tragic accident in 2020.

The 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers, in 2021, announced a sponsorship deal with Crypto.com. Their jerseys and uniforms now bare the logo of the website. The team has also announced that they are planning to release a 76ers NFT soon, in collaboration with the website.

Final Thoughts

As more and more people are becoming interested in the world of crypto, companies and celebrities are becoming increasingly more open and vocal about their own support of the phenomenon. These are just a few of the plethora of athletes, sports organizations, and general celebrities who have entered sponsorship deals or voiced personal support for the crypto movement.
