Everton are reportedly interested in re-signing striker Tom Cannon from Leicester City this month.

The 22-year-old was recalled to the Foxes on Wednesday morning from a loan spell at Championship outfit Stoke City, who have lost their leading marksman.

Cannon has impressed during his second temporary stint in the second tier, scoring nine goals and providing one assist across 22 appearances for the Staffordshire.

The attacker made the headlines for the Potters during a 6-1 demolition of newly-promoted Portsmouth in early October, bagging four goals in the contest.

Over three separate spells in the Championship at Preston North End, Leicester and Stoke, Cannon has made the net ripple on 19 occasions across 55 appearances.

Everton join Sunderland, Sheffield United in Cannon pursuit?

According to journalist Sami Mokbel, Everton are looking to re-sign Cannon from Leicester, just 18 months after he secured a permanent move away from Goodison Park.

The report claims that David Moyes's Toffees are 'in the hunt' for the 22-year-old, who played his final game for Stoke last Saturday afternoon, scoring against Sunderland.

Speaking of the Black Cats, it is understood that the Wearside outfit are also chasing the permanent services of Cannon, who has been capped twice by the Republic of Ireland.

As well as Sunderland, fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield United and Burnley are said to be interested in the forward, with £10m bids coming in for the player.

Cutting Cannon's time at the bet365 Stadium short amid transfer interest, Leicester are reportedly ready to cash in on the Irishman following an impressive spell with Stoke.

Who needs Cannon the most?

With Everton netting just 15 goals across 19 Premier League matches so far this term, only Southampton (12) have a poorer record in front of goal in the division.

As a result, the Toffees are in clear need of attacking inspiration this month, although Cannon is not a proven top-flight player and is unlikely to hit the ground running at Goodison Park during a potential Merseyside return.

Therefore, it feels as if the 22-year-old would be better suited to a Championship switch, one which will allow him to compete in the upper echelons of that division.

Burnley possess a stellar defensive record - conceding just nine goals across 26 matches to date - but have struggled at times in attack, meaning that Cannon would be a welcome addition to Scott Parker's ranks. body check tags ::
