Hat-trick hero Dobbie hailed by Queens boss Anderson

The former Swansea striker put Premiership side Dundee to the sword.

Queen of the South assistant manager Dougie Anderson praised hat trick hero Stephen Dobbie as the Doonhamers sealed their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

The former Swansea striker put Premiership side Dundee to the sword as Queens march on to face Aberdeen.

Anderson said: "We are really fortunate to have Stephen, he is a matchwinner and makes things happen.

"He loves it here, we have turned down bids from bigger clubs and from higher leagues but he always says he doesn't want to go.

"Sometimes you don't get a second chance when you don't get the result the first time against Premiership opposition.

"But the boys were immense. We had players playing through injury and that sums up the spirit we have here.

"Aberdeen are one of the top three or four teams in Scotland so it will be very difficult.

"But we will give it a go, we have the spirit right throughout the club."

Dobbie kicked off the scoring after 12 minutes with a wonderful hit from 25 yards out following a long solo run.

Things got even better for the Doonhamers in the 27th minute when the 36-year-old pounced on a poor and short backpass from Ryan Inniss to double their lead.

Queens thought they had a penalty when Kyle Jacobs was felled by Andrew Dales but Steven McLean waved away the appeals a minute before the break.

With 15 minutes to go in the tie Gary Naysmith's side wrapped things up as they pounced on another sloppy Dundee mistake. Genseric Kusunga had his backpass intercepted by Dobbie and he did the rest as he slotted the ball home.

Dundee boss Jim McIntyre slammed his side's performance.

He said: "It was embarrassing, we totally fell apart at the back with our decision making.

"You can't gift goals like that, the second and third were ridiculous and it's the kind of thing you wouldn't see five year-olds doing.

"That's the second time in two games my centre half has come in and said 'sorry'. Well, actions speak louder than words."
