Dundee manager Neil McCann is eyeing a run of “winnable games” as the club keep faith in his stewardship.
Managing director John Nelms confirmed McCann would be in charge when Dundee face Hamilton in Lanarkshire on Saturday despite admitting their early-season form was “very concerning”.
Dundee are without a point after six Ladbrokes Premiership matches and lost a further two home games in the Betfred Cup to Championship sides Dunfermline and Ayr.
An identical run of seven consecutive defeats cost Paul Hartley his job immediately before McCann took over in April 2017 but Nelms claimed there were signs that the 44-year-old would turn things around.
Nelms told The Courier: “It is very concerning, of course it is. But if you look at the squad we have on the park and the work that is going into things, everything across the board, it is a much bigger picture than where we are.
“I do think it is a false position we are in.”
McCann will get the chance to prove that on Saturday when his side travel to the Hope Stadium. They then host Kilmarnock and travel to Livingston.
Speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by Hibernian, he told Dee TV that they had to embark on a winning run.
“Hundred per cent, we are going to have to win those games,” he said.
“I know Hamilton won their game on Saturday, we have Kilmarnock and Livingston, then we go against Hearts who have been flying high, and Celtic. We have got winnable games there.
“I did feel this one was going to be a tough game but definitely winnable and I felt in the first 45 minutes our shape was good, we looked solid enough, I thought we looked a threat.
“But in the second half we have not reacted to going a goal down. It was a poor goal to lose. And the second one as well has been a bit of a sucker punch because it knocks the wind from our sails.
“We suffered an injury to Karl (Madianga) and had to change it at half-time, and that had a wee bit of an unsettling impact on us. Then a couple of injuries added to that with Calvin (Miller) and Benjamin (Kallman) going off as well.”
