Antonio Conte: 'Christian Eriksen goal killed our confidence'

Antonio Conte believes that Chelsea deserved to go into half time with a two-goal lead against Tottenham Hotspur, rather than level at 1-1.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has bemoaned his side's failure to hold on to their lead against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's clash at Stamford Bridge.

A headed opener from Alvaro Morata half an hour in gave the Blues a platform to build on, which they failed to make the most of.

Marcos Alonso had a shot kept out by Hugo Lloris soon after, but Spurs bagged a leveller through Christian Eriksen's long-range drive before the interval and added two more via Dele Alli in the second half.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the 3-1 defeat, Conte admitted that Eriksen's goal, which stand-in keeper Willy Caballero should have done better to keep out, was a game-changing moment.

"The goal at the end of the first half wasn't good for us and our confidence. We deserved to go in 2-0 up but football is this and Eriksen scored a fantastic goal," he said.

"In the second half we tried to score again but Tottenham have been more clinical than us. In this season we are not so clinical and then we lost the game."

Tottenham have won more points in Premier League London derbies this season than any other side, with five wins and a draw from their eight encounters.
