Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been allowed to miss Italy's upcoming friendly with USA.

Jorginho featured for the full 90 minutes as the Azzurri played out a goalless draw with Portugal in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday night, but the 26-year-old has been spared a second international appearance in quick succession.

The former Napoli man has been given permission to return to Stamford Bridge, with Italy manager Roberto Mancini happy to make changes for Tuesday's meeting with USA.

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has previously suggested that Jorginho has played too much football this season, with 20 appearances having been made for club and country since August 5.

The development is a boost for Chelsea ahead of Saturday's London derby with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.
