Chelsea on brink of club first ahead of West Ham United game

Chelsea are on the brink of recording a club first ahead of Saturday's London derby at West Ham United.

Chelsea could set a club first when they square off against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues head into their latest derby showdown sitting in ninth place in the Premier League standings, 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Newcastle United.

However, should Graham Potter's side be able prevail versus the Hammers, they will move level on points with Brentford, who are in seventh spot.

Nevertheless, Chelsea make the short trip across the capital having won just two of their most recent 12 matches in the top flight, keeping Potter under pressure if certain reports are to be believed.

That said, Chelsea have enjoyed an upturn in results, of sorts, in recent matches, collecting five points from fixtures versus Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Fulham.

While just one goal was netted during that triple-header, Chelsea were able to keep clean sheets in all three fixtures, the most recent two outings ending 0-0.

Should that same scoreline be the end result of the meeting with West Ham, it will represent the first time in Chelsea's history that three successive league matches have finished in goalless draws.

At the same time, Chelsea are also bidding to end a 12-year wait to record three victories in succession over West Ham, although their last two successes occurred at Stamford Bridge.

As well as that feat, Chelsea are attempting to become the first club to record 150 wins in London derbies in the Premier League, their first attempt ending in failure against Fulham on February 3.

From West Ham's perspective, they will be attempting to go three matches unbeaten in the top flight this season for just the second time.

On the flip side, David Moyes's team have suffered defeat in eight of their last 10 all-capital league games, their most recent success coming versus Fulham on October 9.
