Sports Mole

Chelsea will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Blackburn Rovers in the last-16 stage of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Blues suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with the result leaving them down in 11th position in the table.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have overcome AFC Wimbledon and Brighton & Hove Albion in this season's League Cup and will now be aiming to progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Blackburn, who are currently 12th in the Championship table.

Ben Chilwell

Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Chilwell remains on the sidelines for Chelsea due to a hamstring issue, and it is unlikely that the England international will be back on the field until December.

Christopher Nkunku

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Nkunku is yet to make his debut for the Blues due to a serious knee injury, but he is expected to be back on the field before the end of the year.

Wesley Fofana

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Fofana faces a battle to return before the end of the 2023-24 campaign, with the Frenchman undergoing a knee operation in the middle of July.

Trevoh Chalobah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Chalobah is yet to feature this season due to a troublesome thigh problem, and the defender will again be unavailable for selection against Blackburn in the EFL Cup.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Chukwuemeka has suffered a recurrence of a previous knee injury, and the midfielder is now expected to be on the sidelines until at least after the November international break.

Romeo Lavia

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Lavia is yet to make his debut for Chelsea due to a lack of fitness and an ankle problem, and the midfielder will again definitely be sidelined for the contest with Blackburn.

Marcus Bettinelli

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: Unknown

Bettinelli has not made a matchday squad this season due to an unspecified injury, and it is unclear when the experienced goalkeeper could be available for selection once again.

Armando Broja

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Broja was again missing against Brentford due to a new complaint, and the experienced forward is also expected to be on the sidelines for the clash in the EFL Cup.
