Burnley have reportedly joined the race to sign Britt Assombalonga from Nottingham Forest after making an £8m offer for the striker.

The Clarets are said to have identified the 24-year-old as a direct replacement for Andre Gray, who could be on his way out of Turf Moor in the coming weeks.

Sky Sports News reports that a formal approach has now been made, but Forest are reluctant to offload one of their key players.

Middlesbrough are also said to be in pursuit of the former Watford and Peterborough United man, potentially driving his asking price into eight figures.

Assombalonga scored 14 goals in 32 Championship appearances last term and only penned a new five-year deal at the City Ground in September.
