Chris Hughton: 'Easy decision to pick Glenn Murray against Middlesbrough'

Chris Hughton claims that he had no qualms about selecting matchwinner Glenn Murray in his squad to face Middlesbrough, despite his arrest earlier this week.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has insisted that he had "no hesitation at all" fielding Glenn Murray against Middlesbrough, despite the striker's arrest earlier this week.

The 34-year-old and his wife were detained by police as part of a £1.1m tax probe conducted by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs.

Murray was included in Brighton's squad for Saturday's FA Cup tie at the Riverside Stadium, however, and played a pivotal role from the bench as he netted a stoppage-time winner in his side's 1-0 win.

Hughton had no qualms about using the striker, telling reporters at full time: "There was no hesitation at all. He's been focused as normal and I had no hesitation in bringing him off the bench.

"With all strikers, what you want is them to be in there, to anticipate. It was a very good cross in the first place and Glenn did what he does.

"We have found goals hard to come by and probably there were periods where that showed. Today it was probably going to take a little bit of a special goal, a strike from outside the box or somebody to make a mistake or a little bit of luck, and we certainly got that little bit of fortune with the goal."

Brighton, who will find out their fifth-round opponents on Monday evening, return to action with a trip to Southampton on Wednesday night.
