Bayern Munich confirm serious knee injury for Franck Ribery

Franck Ribery could be a doubt for the World Cup after tearing the lateral cruciate ligament in his left knee during Bayern Munich's 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin.

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery is facing another spell out of action after it was confirmed that he suffered a serious knee injury in the 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin.

The 34-year-old overextended his left leg during the second half of a match that saw the defending champions throw away another two-goal lead.

France international Ribery has torn the lateral cruciate ligament in his left knee, likely ruling him out until the tail end of the season and making him a fitness doubt for the World Cup.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's official website: "We're sorry Franck has hurt himself. We all wish him a quick and good improvement."

Ribery had made nine appearances for Bayern prior to sustaining the injury, scoring one goal during that time.
