Mikel Arteta 'cancelled Arsenal approach for Kevin Volland'

:Headline: Mikel Arteta 'cancelled Arsenal approach for Kevin Volland':
A report claims that Arsenal were planning to move for Kevin Volland in January, only for Mikel Arteta to block a deal when taking over as manager.

Arsenal reportedly ended their interest in Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland due to concerns raised by boss Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners were rumoured to be monitoring the 27-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

ESPN claims that Arteta told Arsenal to look elsewhere after replacing Unai Emery as manager in December, though, as he felt other areas needed prioritising.

Volland, who can play on the left or through the middle, has scored nine goals and set up seven more in 22 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Arteta may be forced to look for a new attacker when the transfer window opens as speculation continues to grow over the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal were ninth in the Premier League at the time of the season being brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic. body check tags ::
