Arsenal are reportedly interested in securing a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko before the end of the January transfer window.

Arsenal have reportedly made an approach for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko.

With Calum Chambers having been ruled out until the back end of 2020, the Gunners are expected to add to their backline before the end of the January window.

While nothing has officially been confirmed by the Premier League outfit, the centre-back's agent Yuriy Danchenko has claimed that he is attempting to secure a move to the Emirates Stadium for the Ukraine international.

Speaking to the media in Matviyenko's homeland, Danchenko said: "Recently, my colleagues and I have been constantly in contact with representatives of the Arsenal, and have had meetings.

"The Gunners' hierarchy have already contacted Shakhtar, and we hope that these negotiations will succeed."

The 23-year-old has previously been targeted by Manchester City, where Arteta was assistant before his recent switch to Arsenal. body check tags ::
