Arsenal 'target move for next Raphael Varane'

Arsenal eye a summer swoop for Saint-Etienne teenager William Saliba, according to a report.
By , European Football Editor | 5d

Arsenal are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba, a teenager who has been dubbed 'the next Raphael Varane' following a string of impressive performances.

Saliba has broken into the Saint-Etienne during the 2018-19 campaign, making 19 appearances in all competitions for the French outfit, including 16 in Ligue 1.

The 18-year-old only signed a new long-term deal at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in April, but it is understood that a number of clubs are considering moves for the central defender.

According to Goal.com, Saliba has emerged as a 'top target for the Gunners', who have scouted the 6ft 4in ace on a number of occasions throughout the 2018-19 season.

Manchester United have also previously been credited with an interest in the teenager, who could reportedly command a transfer fee of £25m in this summer's transfer window.

Saliba has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
