Mikel Arteta lauds "phenomenal" Arsenal in Wolverhampton Wanderers win

Mikel Arteta describes Arsenal's performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers as "phenomenal" after the Gunners claim a late 2-1 win at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta has paid tribute to a "phenomenal" performance from his Arsenal side after the Gunners came from behind to beat top-four rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the Premier League.

Hwang Hee-chan capitalised on a mistake from Gabriel Magalhaes to put Wolves ahead inside the opening 10 minutes, and Bruno Lage's men attempted to shut up shop for the remainder of the contest.

However, Nicolas Pepe came off the bench to equalise in the dying embers before the Emirates went into pandemonium as Alexandre Lacazette's late effort was deflected in off the gloves of Jose Sa.

Having now cut the gap to fourth-placed Manchester United to just one point with two games in hand, Arteta told reporters at his post-match press conference: "It was a great one winning at the end against a really good team.

"I think they haven't lost a game after going ahead since 2018, but we kept pushing. The spirit and the energy that the players put in in the second half was phenomenal."

Arsenal's next Premier League game sees them lock horns with Watford on March 6, while Man United prepare to face the Hornets on Saturday.
