ITV reportedly pulls the plug on Coronation Street's Christmas party due to a rise in coronavirus cases.

ITV has reportedly cancelled Coronation Street's annual Christmas party due to concerns over coronavirus.

The cast and crew of the UK's biggest soap were due to celebrate together in the coming weeks before production shuts down briefly over the festive period, but the rise of the Omicron variant has put paid to those plans.

"Everyone is gutted the party has been cancelled," a source told The Sun.

"It's usually a huge bash with loads of free booze and a chance for the cast to let their hair down after a long year.

"The younger castmates are particularly annoyed because they love getting glammed up."

The move comes as the UK government prepares to introduce tougher restrictions - including a return to working from home - over the Christmas period.
